The Yorkville Youth Athletic Association http://www.yyaa.org
The Yorkville Youth Athletic Association is a well run, very organized community organization that offers basketball, baseball, flag football, tennis and roller hockey programs to K-12 boys and girls from the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Their teams are coached by volunteer parents. They offer coaching clinics, directors meetings, participate in Little League Day at Yankee Stadium and they have an annual Memorial Weekend Picnic. Their wonderful awards ceremonies have featured Willis Reed, Frank McGuire, Wayne Gretzsky, Bob Lanier, Ted Lilly and Will Peterson as guest speakers. They also run the Yorkville Theatre Ensemble which gives students the opportunity to explore all aspects of theatre performance. Through class work, rehearsals and performance the members of each company develop skills in acting, singing and dancing. The theatre program was begun for those who were not only interested in a sports experience, but also in another arena that adds the same benefits we gain from sports – being a member of a team which will work together on a common goal.
